What is timber wood used for?
The trunk of the tree is sawn into pieces to make beams, planks and boards. These are used in construction work, such as timber framed buildings, fencing and floorboards, in furniture or made into pallets.

Color/Appearance: Heartwood is a reddish brown. Well defined sapwood is a pale yellowish white. Color tends to darken with age.
Grain/Texture: Grain is interlocked with a uniform medium to coarse texture; naturally lustrous.
Rot Resistance: Rated as very durable. Moderately resistant to termites and marine borers, and variously resistant/susceptible to other insect attacks.

Color/Appearance: Heartwood color can vary, ranging from a pale pinkish orange to a deep brownish red. Most pieces tend to start reddish orange when freshly cut, darkening substantially over time to a reddish/purplish brown (some lighter pieces age to a grayish brown).
Grain/Texture: Grain is usually straight, but can sometimes be interlocked. With a coarse, open texture and good natural luster.
Rot Resistance: Has excellent decay resistance, and is rated as durable to very durable. Padauk is also reported to be resistant to termites and other insects.

We supply Tali wood, TTali wood is reddish to brown. The genus (Erythrophleum spp.) and the name 'red water tree' refer to the red sap of the bark, which can turn water reddish.'
As a tree, Tali is known to have many medicinal properties: the roots and bark cure headaches, soothe body pain and are used as love charms. The tree is also known as the ordeal tree or ‘sassy wood’, as it has been used in trials, until recent times. Its properties certainly do justice to the ground and freshwater, for which Tali is ideal.
Moderately lustrous, Tali wood is very heavy (around 900 kg/m3), it is also weather and insect resistant. Tali is often used in interior and exterior, including heavy construction, decking, floors and anything which is exposed to the outdoors.
Tali can be used for several applications such as:
Interior: e.g. industrial or heavy flooring
Exterior: e.g. posts, stakes, bridges (parts not in contact with water or ground), sleepers, heavy carpentry, vehicle or container flooring
Can be used as a substitute for Azobe (Lophira alata).

We supply Iroko Wood, the wood is tough, dense, and very durable. It is often used in cabinetmaking and paneling as a substitute for teak, which it resembles both in colour (light brown to deep golden-brown) and in grain.
Color/Appearance: Heartwood is usually a yellow to golden or medium brown, with color tending to darken over time. Pale yellow sapwood is clearly demarcated from the heartwood.
Grain/Texture: Iroko has a medium to coarse texture, with open pores and an interlocked grain.
Rot Resistance: Iroko is very durable, and is resistant to both rot and insect attack; it’s sometimes used as a substitute for Teak.

Color/Appearance: Heartwood is a golden yellow to reddish brown, sometimes with darker streaks and veins. Color tends to darken upon exposure and with age. Sapwood is a medium yellow to light gray,and is generally narrow: it can be up to 3 inches (7.5 cm) wide, and is clearly demarcated from heartwood; a narrow transition zone is sometimes present between heartwood and sapwood. African Walnut also displays a ribbon-stripe figuring on quartersawn surfaces, similar to Sapele.
Common Uses: Veneer, plywood, flooring, furniture, cabinetry, and turned objects.

Rot Resistance: Teak has been considered by many to be the gold standard for decay resistance, and its heartwood is rated as very durable. Teak is also resistant to termites, though it is only moderately resistant to marine borers and powder post beetles.
